What to Bring to a Photoshoot

What to wear

First and foremost, always bring something you are comfortable in and like! Wear YOUR style, after all, the shoot is about you. That being said, it is generally good practice not to wear any bright colors, stripes, or really busy designs. The goal is that your clothes do not distract from you, and in stead, focus the viewers attention on you. For instance, collars often work well because they lead the viewers eye to the subjects face, and provide a kind of frame for the subject. Often solid colours work best, especially those that match your eyes, though depending on the style of shoot plaid and textured designs can look very nice. I would recommend bringing several outfits & combos that represent you, or in some cases the specific look we are going for (ie jeans, shorts, dresses, etc..). Bring as many outfits as you like, in fact bring more than you think you need!

One idea is to bring something for every season, spring, summer & winter. It is also a good idea to bring at least one thing you don’t mind getting a little dirty (in case of leaning on something dirty or being on the ground).

Props

Bring props! Bring something that represents what you love to do. What is a prop? Well, almost anything…it could be a hat, sunglesses, a scarf, an umbrella, a guitar, perhaps a book or a small retro suitcase. If you have any doubt as to whether you should bring it or not, bring it. We may not use it, but at least we have it available! Again, we want the prop to add impact in a way that draws attention to the subject. You could also bring elastics and other things to change your hairstyle.

Other things to consider

You may want to bring some makeup, and a small mirror. Also, depending on the length of the shoot, you may want to bring some water and snacks. Make sure you don’t bring anything that will make your teeth look less than..well optimal…(ie. Chocolate, coffee). If shooting outdoors, it is always a good idea to bring a sweater and insect repellent.
